The Forbidden Kingdom, Jackie Chan

Favorable reviews and Judd Apatow’s association helped nab a second place finish this past weekend.  While some may have expected the adult comedy to debut at #1, the movie was unfortunately inaccessible to large segment of ticket buyers.

Meanwhile, Marshall‘s R-rated raunch allowed fellow new entry to edge right past it.  The action film, which brought martial artists Jackie Chan and Jet Li together for the first time, earned $21.4 million—just enough for the win.

X-Files MovieIt seems repeating the new title enough times could get you more than one sequel.  It might get you two.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, said there’s a chance we’ll be seeing more of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully in the future.  If things work out favorably at this summer’s box office, the show’s creator would like to move forward with a third installment.  One that might possibly fare better with those who have been long-time devotees of the series.

While this upcoming release is intended to serve as a stand-alone feature, a new film would most likely touch on the alien abduction theme that was central to the FOX program.  But if fans would like to see that idea come to life, they must first support July 25’s debut of The X-Files: I Want to Believe.

Bond, Car in Water

Although we’ve grown accustomed to seeing James Bond do flashy things with his vehicle, I don’t think his iconic car was intended for this.

This past Saturday, an Aston Martin being used on took a dive into Lake Garda while en route to the set.  Wet weather forced the vehicle - and its driver - to plunge into the waters in northern Italy.

Surprisingly, the person behind the wheel reportedly escaped with only minor injuries.  I don’t think the same could be said for the car.

Tarantino to teach Cannes class

Just when legendary filmmaker had seemed to have had enough with Cannes, organizers of the event announced last Thursday that he will be teaching this year’s Cinema Masterclass.

It is no doubt that the living icon will have more than enough to teach upcoming directors, for he himself has not only won the 1994 Palme d’Or award for Pulp Fiction, but also appeared as a judge for the festival in 2004. Along with his overwhelming accomplishments, Tarantino’s affinity and love for film have always made his interviews and speaking events quite memorable for fans everywhere.

Previous teachers of the Masterclass include Sydney Pollack, Stephen Frears and most recently, .

Who knows, perhaps this will push him to finish Inglorious Bastards, eh?

[Rec] American remake is titled QuarantineWe all know that Hollywood rapes any movie they see as potential blockbuster meat, remaking any and every thing they possibly can. I never would have guessed, however, that they would go so low as to remake a film that was made just last year and has not even been released in the U.S. yet!

Yes, that’s right, a 2007 Spanish movie by the name of [Rec] already has an American remake that is due out this October, titled Quarantine. Both films follow an ambitious newswoman and her cameraman, off to cling to a story that does not end well.

The trailer for Quarantine, which you can see after the jump, has sparked quite some outrage, as fans are unimpressed by the , claiming it is a bad combination of 28 Days Later and Cloverfield. I personally am choosing not to support this atrocity, yet I know that Hollywood wins these battles because people go to see movies to see movies, no matter how unoriginal it is. If it looks remotely decent, anyone with ten dollars seems to jump on a movie like this.

Stand up in the fight against unoriginality, yes?

Emma WatsonKnown to most of the world as Hermione Granger, has signed up to co-star in the upcoming flick Napoleon and Betsy.

The movie details the love affairs between a young girl (Watson, 18) and the former emperor, Watson’s first leading film role outside the franchise. The movie begins in 1815, when Napoleon was exiled to St. Helena. It was during this time the former leader of France met Betsy, daughter William Balcombe (who owned the estate where Napoleon was held). The affair between the two lasted for three years.

Betsy was originally set to be played by , but she left when it became apparent the part would call for a younger actress. Watson is currently in production on the set of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and is scheduled to begin shooting Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows early next year. Sometime in-between she’ll get pinned into her big costumes for Betsy, as the film is slated for a 2009 release.

Sex & the City

The May 12 premiere of the movie is still up in air, though it is said the film will certainly not make its debut at Cannes. Right now, insiders are hinting toward London, though it’s still not altogether impossible the movie will premiere in New York. The press junket is scheduled to begin in New York May 2, and rumor suggests Sex may premiere in London and New York.

As to the soundtrack, current gossip says that Fergie and Jennifer Hudson (who will play Carrie Bradshaw’s assistant in the film) will both record new tunes. But the real Sex scoop was released by , a.k.a. Miranda Hobbs. This certain redhead let it slip on April 15 that “a character dies in the movie.” Enter panic mode now.

X-FilesLast month, lucky attendees of the Paley Festival got a sneak peek of the new movie.  (You can get your own shaky view of that trailer here.)  Now we finally know what to call this highly-anticipated sequel: The X-Files: I Want to Believe.

Detail-oriented fans who can remember that far back (the series ended six years ago) may recognize that ‘Believe’ phrase from a poster in Mulder’s office.

In an interview with the AP, show creator explained the significance behind the title.  “It’s a story that involves the difficulties in mediating faith and science. `I Want to Believe.’ It really does suggest Mulder’s struggle with his faith.”

Those (like me) who couldn’t remember that slogan - or haven’t been introduced to the series at all - should not worry.  The movie was designed to serve as a stand-alone feature that will supposedly “satisfy everyone.”

Be ready for the mysteries to unfold this July 25.

Heidi MontagDespite having a loser boyfriend (a.k.a. Spencer Pratt), a questionable singing career and a soon-to-be-on-the-clearance-rack clothing line - says she wants nothing to do with a proposed movie version of The Hills.

Don’t get me wrong—I think a big screen version of the reality show would be a ridiculous idea.  But should Heidi be turning her back on really the only thing she’s known for?

In an interview with , Montag says she would like to set her sights much higher when it came to the film industry:

“I’ve never discussed a movie possibility for ‘The Hills’…and I’m not sure if for my first movie I’d let Lauren Conrad narrate me, so I don’t think that would be something I would do.  If I was doing movies, I’d want it to be with Denzel Washington or something like that. If they were to make a ‘Hills’ movie, I wouldn’t be in it. No, thank you.”

Uhh, Denzel Washington?  This is coming from someone who couldn’t even lip-synch in her own music video.
